Minimal invasive hip surgery in France

Mr W H, a 66 year old man from Surrey had a minimally invasive hip operation at Clinique des Franciscaines.  He stayed at the hospital for 12 days for the two day pre-surgical check-up, consultations with the orthopaedic surgeon, the anaesthetist, the cardiologist and the necessary tests and x-rays then he had his operation on the third morning, staying for a further nine days for recovery and physiotherapy exercises.

He paid £5,800 and flew with Easyjet from London Luton to Paris CDG, after being advised that it would be perfectly safe to fly and that there would be no risk of Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) after a hip or knee replacement operation because the flight does not exceed two hours.  The clinic’s chauffeur service which welcomed and transferred him to the hospital and back again once discharged cost €170.  

After the operation Mr WH felt very comfortable with the new found freedom of movement in his hip.  He said:  “When I set out to try and have this operation I had lots of questions and anxieties about the reputation and success of the surgeon, as well as the risks of infection, how to get there and back, how well I would be at the end of the surgery and after the nine days of therapy, but the speed and accuracy of the communications put my mind at rest and helped me make my decision to go ahead.  It seems remarkable to me and to my friends as I meet them that within three weeks of my operation I was able to walk and sit with ease and after just seven and a half weeks I am totally free from any discomfort and am able to drive, go training in the gym and simply do almost any physical activity I choose.  The surgeon’s close care and attention to my needs and progress from the day I arrived at the Clinic to the day of my departure was extremely impressive.
